Who Should Attend

Persons who will be acting in the role of a Workplace Health and Safety Representative.

The Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 requires that where a person is elected as a Workplace Health and Safety Representative then they are entitled to attend a training course prescribed under a regulation, and refresher courses for the training course. This course will meet the requirements prescribed under legislation.

What will I learn?

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to enable them to fulfill the role of an effective Workplace Health and Safety Representative and to meet the entitlements as prescribed by legislation.

Am I eligible to undertake this training?

There are no specific requirements for entry into this course.

Objectives

This course provides the participants with the skills and competencies to:

  • Understand the purpose and application of Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and have a broad knowledge of its contents.
  • Source and apply workplace health and safety information to issues in the workplace.
  • Identify and assess workplace hazards and risks.
  • Identify and recommend control measures to manage exposure to workplace hazards and risks.
  • Represent workers within workplace health and safety consultation arrangements.
  • Prepare and present reports.
  • Review the circumstances surrounding incidents at the workplace.
  • Effectively issue workplace health and safety provisional improvement notices (PINS).

On completion of this course, participants will have acquired the skills and knowledge to enable them to fulfil the role of a workplace health and safety representative as set down in section 81 (1) of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995.

WHSR01B – Identify and apply relevant workplace health and safety information

WHSR03B – Represent workers in workplace health and safety consultation mechanisms

WHSR04A – Issuing workplace health and safety provisional improvement notices (PINS)

Can what I already know be taken into account? (RPL)

Yes, your history of study, skills and experience can be taken into account but, it must support the competencies included in the units of competency. Documentary evidence and an interview will be required.

What if I need help with reading, writing or mathematics?

We can provide support in some areas. Where we cannot we will provide direction to other agencies who may be able to assist.

Course Management

At the commencement of the course you will be provided with an induction which includes legislation, health and safety, assessment, grievances, appeals and any other issues that could affect you in this course.

Duration

3 days

Public Course Fees

$450.00 (plus GST) per participant.
Course fees include extensive course notes, relevant legislation, lunch, morning and afternoon tea each day.

Onsite Course Costs

Up to 12 participants - $3,300 per course, plus course notes at $30 per participant.
Additional participants - $300 per participant, plus course notes at $30 per participant.
All prices are plus GST and any additional costs and expenses as noted below.

How will I be assessed?

Your competencies will be assessed through completion of both assessment activities and an open book examination.

What will I receive at the conclusion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the course you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.

Additional Costs and Expenses

Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area additional costs will be applicable. Any airfares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be charged at cost. Mileage will be charged at 70c (plus GST) per kilometre and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.

Course Venue and Equipment

The course is usually conducted in our training rooms in Scott Street, Bungalow.  Where courses are conducted on?site then a suitable venue, data projector and white board are to be provided by the client company.  The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company.  Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.
