Who Should Attend
Those who have successfully completed Functioning as a Workplace Health & Safety Officer – Core Modules, and wish to become a qualified Workplace Health and Safety Officer in a Service-based workplace.
What will I learn?
For those who have successfully completed Functioning as a Workplace Health & Safety Officer – core modules, the participant will gain the necessary skills to operate in the role of Workplace Health & Safety Officer in a service based workplace.
Am I eligible to undertake this training?
Participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instructions for:
- Referencing and understanding Queensland current workplace health and safety legislation, standards and related materials.
- Assisting Queensland State Government workplace health and safety officials.
- Preparing workplace health and safety reports.
- Establishing appropriate educational programs.
- Investigating work injuries, work caused illnesses and dangerous events.
- Consulting with workers, employers, and statutory health and safety officials.
Participants are required to have successfully completed the following modules which are included in the core modules of this course.
WHSO/01 – Provide advice on Workplace Health and Safety
WHSO/02 – Manage health and safety hazards and risks in the workplace
WHSO/03 – Manage workplace Incidents
Where these were successfully completed with another course provider then documented evidence of successful completion will be required.
NOTE: This course must be completed within 6 months of completing Functioning as a Workplace Health & Safety Officer – Core Modules in order to gain the Workplace Health and Safety Officer (Service-based workplaces) certification. Where enrolment occurs after the six month period then re-assessment of the core modules will be required before commencement of this course. For further information please contact us.
Objectives
This course provides the participants with the skills and competencies to:
- Determine areas of interest and hazards in service based workplaces.
- Inspect service based workplaces
- Advise on the implementation of hazard control measures in service based industries.

Can what I already know be taken into account? (RPL)
Yes, your history of study, skills and experience can be taken into account but it must support the competencies included in above units of competency. Documentary evidence and interview will be required.
What if I need help with reading, writing or mathematics?
We can provide support in some areas. Where we cannot we will provide direction to other agencies who may be able to assist.
Course Management
At the commencement of the course you will be provided with an induction which includes legislation, health and safety, assessment, grievances, appeals and any other issues that could affect you in this course.

Course Fees
$380.00 (GST free) per participant.
Course fees include extensive course notes, relevant legislation, lunch, morning and afternoon tea
How will I be assessed?
Your competencies will be assessed through completion of examinations, assessment exercises and on site assignment.
What will I receive at the conclusion of the course?
Upon successful completion of the course you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment and a “Workplace Health and Safety Officer Assessment Report / Certificate Authority Application” for the service module.
Additional Costs and Expenses
Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area then additional costs will be applicable. Any air fares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be charged at cost. Mileage will be charged at 70c (plus GST) per kilometre and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.
Course Venue and Equipment
The course is conducted in our training rooms in Scott Street, Bungalow. Where courses are conducted on?site then a suitable venue, data projector and white board are to be provided by the client company. The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of training. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.
