Traffic Controller Course (including Roadwork Signage)
Who Should Attend?
This unit is aimed at people who wish to carry out the duties of an Accredited Traffic Controller.
What will they learn?
The aim of this course is to provide participants with the training requirements for application for accreditation as an “Accredited Traffic Controller”
Who is eligible to undertake this training?
Participants provide evidence of having held a drivers licence for a continuous period of 12 months within the last five years. Queensland Transport will also undertake a criminal history search for new applications.
Objectives
At the completion of the course participants will:
- Understand the functions and responsibilities of a traffic controller.
- Understand and apply the approved operating procedures for controlling traffic.
- Understand and apply the mandatory dress code.
How will participants be assessed?
Participants’ competencies will be assessed through completion of theory and practical exercises. Theory assessment is open book with multiple choice questions.

What will I receive at the conclusion of the course?
Upon successful completion of the course participants will be issued documented proof of having completed approved traffic controller training. The documentation supplied, plus other information, must be submitted to Queensland Transport for accreditation. Queensland Transport will charge a licensing fee of approx. $114.30 if you have never applied for a traffic controller licence before (if you are doing a refresher course the fee will be slightly less).
Additional Costs and Expenses
Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area then additional costs will be applicable. Any airfares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be charged at cost. Mileage will be charged at 70c (plus GST) per kilometre and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.
Course Venue and Equipment
Where courses are conducted on-site then a suitable venue (which can accommodate up to 12 participants) and a white board are to be provided by the client company, as well as the traffic control equipment (a list of required equipment is available). The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of the theoretical training. Practical assessment will require the use of a traffic management equipment and time/area allocated to allow participants to be assessed without interruption. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.
