Who Should Attend

Persons who are working in, or intend to work in the building and construction industry, scaffolding, warehousing, or are working with elevated work platforms as part of their employment.

What will I learn?

Participants will be instructed in the safe and efficient use of boom type elevating work platforms. The course will include the following:

  • Conduct routine checks of equipment.
  • Plan the work to be completed, taking into consideration prevailing conditions.
  • Using the controls and operating systems to manage the operation of the equipment.
  • Planning the elevation.
  • Carrying out the elevation.
  • Setting up the elevating work platform.
  • Dismantling the elevating work platform.

OHSCER235A - Operate a Boom Type Elevating Work Platform.

Am I eligible to undertake this training?

Minimum age of 18 years with the ability to speak and write English to a basic level and have the necessary levels of health and fitness to safely carry out work operating an elevating work platform. Participants must also produce proof of identity before the final assessment can be undertaken.

Is there Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) ?

Yes, your history of study, skills and experience can be taken into account but it must support the performance criteria set out in the unit of competency. Documentary evidence and interview will be required.

Due to the high risk nature of the EWP course, a mandatory challenge test must be undertaken in accordance with the licensing/regulatory authority assessment requirements. This challenge test consists of a written knowledge test and is followed by a practical test to demonstrate competence against the OHS assessment instrument.

Assistance with reading, writing or mathematics

We can provide support in some areas. Where we cannot, we will provide direction to other agencies who may be able to assist.

What will the participant receive at the conclusion of the course?

Upon successful completion of the course you will be issued with a photocopy of the completed assessment summary report together with a license/certification application form and a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency completed.

How will the participant be assessed?

The theory part of the training (including the written challenge test) can be conducted at our training premises or on-site at your workplace, and will be completed in one day. The practical assessment component of the course will be scheduled and completed at your workplace, using the equipment you are familiar with. A log book must be completed while performing the supervised on-the-job training to account for the on work experience required for the particular unit of competency.

On-site or Dedicated Course Cost

Onsite or dedicated courses may be scheduled for a group.

Pricing for a maximum of 10 participants is $1,100 (GST exempt).

Starter packs are $66 (inclusive of GST) per participant, and practical assessments are charged at $285 (GST exempt) per participant.

Additional Costs and Expenses

Where the training is conducted outside the immediate Cairns area then additional costs will be applicable. Any air fares, travel, accommodation, meals and materials freight incurred in the provision of this training will be charged at cost. Mileage will be charged at 70c (plus GST) per kilometre and traveling time will be charged at our standard rates. Please contact us for a formal quotation for courses conducted outside of Cairns.

Course Venue and Equipment

Where courses are conducted on-site then a suitable venue (which can accommodate up to 11 people), a projector screen or blank wall and/or a white board are to be provided by the client company. The venue shall have sufficient space for the participants to be seated comfortably for the duration of the theoretical training. Practical assessment will require the use of an elevated work platform and time/area allocated to allow participants to be assessed without interruption. Any catering costs shall be borne by the client company. Please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements if there is any difficulty in providing these facilities and equipment.
